My husband never listens to lyrics.  He’s lucky.  That’s why he’s not got his brain stuck singing Subway’s “Five, Five Dollar, Five Dollar Foot Long.”  If you haven’t seen the video – here it is!

WARNING: it’s a little like that video from The Ring.  You won’t die in seven days – but the jingle may be trapped in your head for about that long if not more.

URGH.

We just arrived home from the first camping trip of the 2008 season, and I have to say…even with the occasional rain, it was really wonderful.  Jim, Easton and I went up with our friend Pete on Friday Night, and the boys set up all the tents (4 in total – we had a gaggle of good people coming with us).  We dined on fire-roasted dinner franks and toasted Marshmallows, and then had the happiest surprise of all when unexpectedly Jon, Allison, Tia and Michael arrived!  I was so glad they came up early!  We relaxed for a spell and hit the hay.  Jim and I traded in our cots for two single inflatable mattresses which were so much better – I actually slept well!

Saturday Morning, we awoke to the sounds of young ones exploring and a brand new day.  A tarp was fastened to shield us from the occasional rainstorm, and excitedly Andrew and Chachi were there in the morning to join the campy adventure.  We dined on “eggs in a basket” and stayed dry.  We later were joined by our last of the motley crew – Paula, David and Connor and we were in for the whole night.  The coolest thing was getting to see three young ones adjust to the world of camping and the outdoors.  Was it a perfect adjustment…no, but it went really well and their parents are such wonderful people and just amazing parents.  I hope I can do as well one day.  We had a massively delicious dinner of the infamous “Steak on a Stick”, David’s Signature Chicken, More Franks, Some Beans, Vegetable Kabobs, Paula’s Perfect Potato Salad and more.  It was a feast fit for kings, queens and the occasional commoner.  Andrew fished for Trout, Jim and Pete visited a “Ghost Town” in the Smokys, Tia and Connor searched for Salamanders, Michael learned about “digging in the dirt”, while Allison, Paula, David and I attempted to relax.  All in all, it was wonderful and the weather was temperature perfect.  We smored with glow bracelets and talked of silly things.  After Easton and I hit the sack, the boys saw a “Ghost Dog”…don’t ask, I can’t explain it.

Sunday – we were up early…packed and instead of the bacon and pancakes I was looking forward to…we decided to travel down the mountain to a pancake house.  Frankly, I’m glad we did because right after we left the pancake house it was pouring down rain.  In the end, it was a great time and relaxing indeed.  Just what I needed.

I can’t wait to do it again.  You in?

In a few words…local boys make good film.

What do you get when you pair a story about small town life, softball, regrets, reminicing, love, laughs, locals and a 50K budget?  A delightful little movie.  Jim was fortunate enough to mix the audio for this locally made independent film that got it’s big premiere here in Knoxville.  Now…don’t think there weren’t a few stars in this flick – there were (local heavy-hitters David Keith and David Dwyer).  What was the most impressive was the performance of Wes Murphy, the loveable and screwed up supporting actor who steals the show.  However, it was a funny and sweet approach to the feeling of coming home to deal with your place in the shadow of your “beloved-by-all parent” – a topic I know well.  Brooks Benjamin was the director and I think, writer of this little gem and they do intend to take it on the film festival circuit, which I think is great.   I can’t wait to see what they do next!

Well folks, things have been busy for Jim and I.  We’re doing our best to just keep up.  Okay, I know I am…I can hardly speak for the hubby (but I think that’d be an accurate comment for him as well).  Since my last post, my wisdom teeth extraction sites have all healed up nicely and I’m back to eating normally (sadly – because not being able to eat normally helped my Weight Watchers plan).  Jim’s done some audio work on an independent film to be released here on Thursday – how cool is that?  Uli Bear (our puppy), officially turned 1 year old (but still has more energy than I ever dreamed of).  We got our taxes done and for the first time in FOREVER are somehow getting a refund (since we usually owe).  I turned down a promotion because I’m trying really hard to keep moving my program forward and do not want to lose any momentum at this point.  Our bathroom is gloriously and completely remodeled and looking AMAZINGLY FABULOUS.  If you saw it before, you know how good it looks now – and yes, I will post pictures soon.  I’ve officially lost 20 pounds.  Jim had a sleep study done, and was told he wakes up like 60 plus times an hour, which is why he never gets quality sleep.  Ummm…I turned 34 yesterday and feel stunning about it.  I’m so looking forward to my year ahead – I have lots of new ideas and am ready to keep moving forward with my life.  I performed in Blount County’s April Foolies show and realized I still love being on the stage.  I will write more about those last two events later…things are good – just crazy busy.  When does it ever slow down?

Thank you Pete for the funny picture and I’m sure Jim was thinking about the steep bill at the end of the night.  We had my traditional birthday lunch at the Melting Pot filled with Cheese Fondue, Salad, Meat Main Course and Chocolate Fondue.  To quote Tim Kazurinski (or however you spell his name)….I happily committed Fondu-icide.  Blessedly, I was able to share the evening with good friends Amy, Pete, Chris, Maria, Lorinda and the Man (Hubby).  The waiter was sweet but flaky – and I don’t regularly dissuade anyone from anything but perhaps the Monday night fondue-fellas are not the first string quarterbacks of the Melting Pot Team.  Still it was wonderful and I thank so much everyone who came out to celebrate with me.

In a few words…a nice way to spend an afternoon.

I like a bit of fake nostalgia…even for a time I wasn’t alive for.  Watching Leatherheads is like watching any old-time sports movie, but quick witted and with a “dame” who has both a brain, opinion and a job.  Set back in prohibition it talks about the beginnings of PRO football – whether or not the story is true at all, it doesn’t matter.  It reminds you of a Kate Hepburn/Cary Grant movie and you know what…that ain’t all that bad.  Plus, it makes me long for a time where men and women dressed up to go out.  Dresses and ties…ah, style even in hard times!

Again, it’s not a life-changing movie, but a fun way to spend a few hours – plus I highly recommend shopping at a nostalgia shop right afterwards.  We hit the MAST General Store right after the film, and bought some “penny candy”.

Welcome To Our “Home”

Okay, so it sounds more elaborate than it really is right? This is our little slice of internet nonsense, which basically is our on-going effort to keep our friends and family up-to-date on our lives, our love and our continuing pursuit of pomegranates. In this modern age of movement, we’ve realized that distance is not an excuse to not keep everyone posted, so please - stop by anytime - in person or internet-ly and know that you are all never far from our thoughts.
